The Part D Plans
Most beneficiaries may choose from any one of the PDPs or MA-PDs available in their area. For those who receive State Medicaid assistance with their prescription drug costs, only certain plans approved by the State can be selected. To learn more about the plan choices, their costs and to compare plans, visit the Medicare Part D Plan Finder website.
Plans may be changed by any beneficiary during the Open Enrollment Period, which is between November 15 and December 31 of each year.
Under special circumstances, some beneficiaries are eligible for a Special Enrollment Period in which they can change their plan. This most notably includes anyone residing in, moving into or leaving a long term care facility. Others who may change plans outside of the annual enrollment period are:
- Dually eligible beneficiaries (both Medicare and Medicaid) regardless of their location of residence;
- Anyone moving into a new Medicare Region (there are 23 regions)
- Those who are either enrolling in or leaving a Medicare Advantage plan
